Honoring Native American Teachers & Their Lineage
Christine bought her first flute at a powwow in Fort Collins, Colorado. It was made by Chris Ti Coom Flutes in the key of G — a 5-hole made of rosewood. After spending 12 years in Ojai, California, as part of a community sweat lodge with ceremonies facilitated by Wolf and Lisa Wahpepah, who run Descendants of the Earth from their camp on Pine Mountain, Christine learned to pray and sing in Lakota Sioux, one of the original languages spoken in America.
She wishes to honor Peter Catches from South Dakota, a 38th generation medicine man, who taught her how to be a pipe carrier and how songs that honor nature and the Great Mystery are tools for healing, ceremony, prayer, and purification. He is the son of Peter Catches Sr., author of the book Sacred Fireplace: The Life and Teachings of a 37th Generation Lakota Medicine Man, and also the founder of Octei Wakan, a nonprofit organization in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, that supports the wellness of tribal children.
During her years of service to the Lakota nation, Christine met an elder and song carrier named Manny Eagle Elk Council Pipe Sandoval from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Of Navajo and Genizaro ancestry, he became Christine’s uncle in a ceremony called Making of a Relative.
As she plays the Native flute at ceremonies, sweat lodges, and healing sessions, Christine is honored to carry songs with the permission of her community, elders, and teachers. She plays and teaches for their original purpose — honoring the land and healing the hearts of people and the Earth.

Mary Youngblood is a 2-time Grammy winner and Emmy nominee, the first Native American woman to have received a Grammy for Best Native American Music Album, and the first Native American person to have won two Grammys. She’s one of the premiere Native American musicians in the country.
Guillermo Martinez has been creating Indigenous culture and traditions by crafting handmade and custom Native American and Mesoamerican instruments in Southern California for the past 35 years. He makes the instruments with love to promote healing and to honor Indigenous traditions and the people who continue to steward the land to this day.
Maria Kostelas founded Flutes of the World Music to express her love of world cultures through the voices of her 100-piece international collection. She has released six solo CDs of original music, and has composed several commissioned works, including a CD for the World Presidents’ Organization Mind/Body Health Conference. She has also recorded a meditation CD with Shirley MacLaine.
Bodhi Setchko has been working with sound meditation, sound healing, and sacred sound journeys for over 50 years. He has studied with Tito La Rosa, Paul Horn, Allaudin Mathieu, and many other artists. Around the globe, his music is used in yoga studios, health spas, and health practitioners’ offices. His music has had millions of plays on Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming sites.
Suzanne Teng plays in the duo Mystic Journey, using an extensive array of flutes from around the world, including the Chinese dizi, bawu, and hulusi; Turkish ney and zurna; Indonesian suling, panpipes, and penny whistles; Native flutes; and ocarinas. She has been teaching since she was 14 and has taught at universities, colleges, music festivals, and music conventions, as well as privately. Her playing can be heard on hundreds of recordings on Polygram, Warner Brothers, Windham Hill, and numerous independent labels, soundtracks, and films. She has also appeared on several Survivor finale shows.

About Christine Stevens
Christine Stevens is an internationally acclaimed speaker, author, drummer, and music therapist. Holding master’s degrees in both social work and music therapy, Christine inspires people all over the world with her message that music promotes holistic health, spirituality, and wellness.
